Dental Hygienist Services
Your community dental health studio offers a wide range of hygiene services in a relaxed and welcoming setting. There are a growing number of insurance companies that are now covering dental hygiene fees. Please check with your insurance provider for details. When submitting a claim on your behalf our office follows the current Ontario Dental Hygiene Fee Guide. No dentist? No problem. We have a professional working relationship with Dentists in the area. By working together we are making sure that all of your dental needs are being taken care of. We strongly recommend that you see your dentist on a yearly basis for a check up and x-rays if needed.
Comprehensive Dental Hygiene Exam
On your first visit to our office you will be required to fill out a comprehensive medical, dental and personal history which will enable us to check on your general health and ensure that it is safe to proceed with any necessary dental treatment. Once this is established, we can put together a personal dental hygiene treatment plan that is unique to your needs. As our treatments are customized to your needs, it is impossible to give an accurate quote prior to your initial examination. Once your comprehensive examination is complete a more precise cost estimate can be laid out. A comprehensive dental hygiene assessment will be done and documented, followed by a periodontal and visual oral cancer screening which is recorded and updated as required. If it is discovered that you need more specialized dental services we will make the appropriate and necessary referrals.
Professional Cleaning and Stain Removal
The standard length of time for this appointment is 1 hour, however this may vary based on the findings during your comprehensive dental assessment. During this appointment we will meticulously remove all hard and soft deposits, both above and below the gum line with the use of ultrasonic scalers as well as hand instruments. It is important to remove these deposits as they harbor bacteria that contribute to many diseases including gingivitis and periodontal disease. Stain removal is done in conjunction with your cleaning visit and is meant to remove any extrinsic granular stains that adhere to the tooth surface. This is done with the use of a mild polishing paste and polishing cup.
Sealants
Dental sealants are a thin resin coating painted on the chewing surfaces of teeth, usually the back teeth (the premolars and molars) to prevent tooth decay. The sealant quickly bonds into the depressions and grooves of the teeth, forming a protective shield over the enamel of each tooth.
Custom Sports Guards
Sports guards, also called mouth guards, help cushion a blow to the face, minimizing the risk of broken teeth and injuries to your lips, tongue, face or jaw. They typically cover the upper teeth and are a great way to protect the soft tissues of your tongue, lips and cheek lining. Knowing how to prevent injuries like these is especially important if you participate in organized sports or other recreational activities.
How we make your custom mouth guard
1. Take an impression. 2. Make a model of your teeth. 3. Fabricate a custom fit mouth guard to ensure a comfortable fit.
why use a custom-fitted mouth guard /Sports guard:
Clear communication when properly inserted, more comfortable and less bulky than a boil and bite, easier breathing, better oxygen exchange=better performance, may prevent concussions from occurring.
Professional Whitening
How Does Teeth Whitening Work?
Teeth whitening is a simple process. Whitening products contain one of two tooth bleaches (hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide). These bleaches break stains into smaller pieces, which makes the color less concentrated and your teeth brighter. We use a tray and gel system to whiten your teeth. We will make you a custom fit set of whitening trays that you will take home and use in conjunction with a premium brand of whitening gel. You will typically wear these trays for one hour a day to a maximum of 14 days.
Desensitizing
Tooth sensitivity occurs when the underlying layer of your teeth, the dentin becomes exposed as a result of receding gum tissue (the protective blanket that covers the tooth roots). The roots, which are not covered by hard enamel, contain thousands of tiny tubules leading to the tooth's nerve center (the pulp). These dentinal tubules (or channels) allow the stimuli - for example, the hot, cold, or sweet food - to reach the nerve in your tooth, which results in the pain you feel.
Fluoride Treatments
Fluoride helps prevent tooth decay by making the tooth more resistant to acid attacks from plaque bacteria and sugars in the mouth. It can also reverses early decay. In children under 6 years of age, fluoride becomes incorporated into the development of permanent teeth, making it difficult for acids to demineralize the teeth. Fluoride also helps speed remineralization as well as disrupts acid production in already erupted teeth of both children and adults.
